January 1 - Summer, Surf and Family

Summer, surf and family, Aussie Christmas cheer
Mum, Dad, the kids and Grandma too, everybody's here
Pork and prawns they fill my plate, the turkey's nearly done
We love our Aussie Christmas, it's always heaps of fun

We're at the beach, we come each year, for rest and relaxation
It's a family tradition, of fourteen days duration
Our caravan is packed with cheer, it's always been that way
As we settle in to celebrate, our family holiday

Friends drop by from all around, with cheer in voice and bottle
We put the chairs under a tree, a twenty meter Wattle
Grandad snores, Dad he roars, his laughter fills the air
As Uncle Tom, who's had his fill, topples off his chair

The fourteen kids head to the beach, for a surf and boogie boarding
Mastering those waves is hard, but success is so rewarding
Summer is just so fab a time, for kids who live in Oz
What's so good about the place? The answer, "just because"

Morning turns to afternoon, as the sun slips down the sky
Those who can they wander home, some don't say goodbye
Grandad stirs, we move him on, back to his favourite chair
With a cup of tea and Christmas cake, he doesn't really care

It's half past ten, the camp site's dark, everyone has gone
It's Boxing Day tomorrow, and the cricket will be on
Back to the beach the kids will run, all playing happily
And I'll have the three things that I love, summer, surf and family
